It starts small and then turns into something big. AtlasBI.com #analytics #mobilebi

When I launched Atlas Insights in the middle of January 2017, I wasn’t sure what the uptake would be on a new mobile business intelligence solution in the marketplace.  Tableau has a lite client, Microsoft has PowerBI client for its dashboards, but would an entrant be worthy enough to jump into the mix?

After 7 months, Atlas Insights just broke a major milestone of over 500 installs!  That is pretty amazing considering we don’t have the budget that Tableau and Microsoft can spend to build a brand.  The goal was “not to be the first to the market with a product, just make it the better than the rest”.  Atlas Insights is completely different because we focus on a mobile-1st experience with actionable data, first and foremost, while other makes you wade through a sea of dashboards trying to figure out what each chart means.

That’s a powerful statement.  Just how long do you spend staring at a dashboard trying to figure out what it means and what you can to do with it?  Too long.

Atlas Insights – “Turn it on and know what is going on.”

Connect your business databases and make your business metrics mobile. #mobilebi

Well if you EVER wanted to make and take your business metrics mobile, now you have absolutely NO excuse not to.  We are excited to announce our new Cloud/SQL data connector to our Professional subscription of our popular mobile business intelligence app, Atlas Insights.  Using WindowsMAC or our Web apps, you can connect to your business SQL databases, instrument your business metric simply and quickly get those metrics out to your decision makers.

How easy is it?  Let me show you.

Using any of our desktop apps for Windows, MAC or Web, you can create a data connection which you will get presented with the following screen.

windowsdataconnector

Give your connection a name and how often you would like the data to refresh.  Enter your server address and port number.   Port number is important for connecting to your enterprise or cloud databases.  At this point we try to connect and retrieve a list of databases you want to connect to.  Click the Save and Continue button to move to the next screen to build your query.

On this screen, you enter your query that will make up the data for your metric.  You need to make your column names match our column name using AS Actual, AS Target, AS Series and AS Date.   Only Actual and Date are required.  Click the Execute Query button to see a sample of your data returned for validation.  If all looks good to you, use the dropdown to Assign to Metric your query.

Atlas Insights will do the rest updating and getting the latest and most important metric data to your decision makers.   If you would like to take this feature for a test drive, it is available in our Professional subscription which I would be happy to give you FREE access to for evaluation.  Just contact me.

Sign up today and get a FREE 3-month Basic subscription! Download for any mobile device or Windows/MAC desktops and Web and get started without anyone contacting you and bugging you for money.  That’s what we call a worry-free trial.

Next awesome feature coming to Atlas Insights. Making #MobileBI Great Again.

Sure, connecting to your database to retrieve data is nothing new and Atlas Insights does it easiler than anyone else.  In our next version of Atlas, if you are using our Windows, MAC or Web clients, you’ll notice the ability to create data connections to your SQL databases and feed your metrics automatically.  Just enter your connection information and proceed to the next screen.

Now enter your query, you might need the assistance of someone that does this for a living.  We’ll match the column of data to what Atlas needs to create a metric.  Save your query and Atlas will do the rest.  We’ll automatically refresh your data so your metrics are always up-to-date.  Now your employees will ALWAYS have the latest data when they need to make decisions that matter most.

Sharing my app’s download progress and a BIG surprise I found. #analytics #mobilebi #startup

applemac_mobilebi

In June of 2016, I began the effort of building a new mobile business intelligence app called Atlas Insights.  Atlas allows you to take your business metrics and also public metrics with you wherever you might be.  Basically, having your most important metrics available whenever you need them is the mantra .   In October I launched my beta and finished up in December of 2016.  Pretty amazing development speed huh?!  I’ll have another blog on that later.  As I have built this business, I have tried to be transparent and informative via my blog on the startup and software development process as I go along.

In all my years of designing and developing software, one metric all developers want to monitor closely is downloads.  Now with having to support so many platforms from Apple, Google and Microsoft, tracking these stats is actually pretty easy.  Today, I spent time visiting all the app store reporting pages to get a gauge on the downloads for Atlas and I came across VERY surprised.

The following chart is “Installs by Platform“.  Right away you see an amazing slice for Apple!  Now I would say I’m a bit Microsoft biased because I worked there and then I built a business off of them.  Even in my marketing, I’m very balanced in that I market each company platform basically the same.  But I’m just SHOCKED that 75% of my downloads are on the Apple platform.  iPhone you may be thinking?

installsbyplatform

So let’s break it all down to get an understanding of what makes up those slices of the pie. The next chart is “Installs by Device“. Because Apple made up so much of the pie, if we look at the slices you’ll be shocked to see that MAC/OSX has 57% of the installs!  In all my years of doing analytics and dashboards, the MAC users where never on the minds of the developers.  I saw this as an opportunity and produced a MAC client of Atlas Insights and I’ve been overwhelmed with the response.

Isn’t that pretty awesome!?  I’m going to continue to build for all platforms, but I will push the BEST business intelligence experience on the MAC/OSX that there has ever been!

Enjoy, Patrick

Try this with your cloud business intelligence solution. You can’t!

cloudbusinessintelligenceediting.PNG

With the Web version of Atlas Insights, you can upload your data from a .CSV or .XLS, you can upload your data and refresh from Google Drive and you can also with one click Copy or download a CSV or Excel version of the data too.  That’s right, you can’t do this with other cloud system.

Inline editing is very important when working your data in the cloud.  But it is also very important that if you have access to data here and want to take it offline and work with the numbers in Excel you should be able too.  Well, with Atlas Insights you can!

It’s your data, not the cloud vendors data…

Business Intelligence on the MAC? Yeah, we got that! #analytics #osx

fs_login_sm

I’ve been doing business intelligence, performance management and analytics for a long time.  One of the #1 questions asked is, “Do you have a MAC client?”  The answer from every vendor was, “No, but we have a browser version you can use… and, it doesn’t quite have all the features.“.  Well that is all great, but we know doing insights is a much better and faster experience in a native app than in the internet browser on a web site.

I think we have all seen over the last 10 years how MAC laptops have grown in demand and sales because of the iPhone.  There was a time when you walked into a business, all you saw were Microsoft Windows desktops.  Not anymore, walk into nearly any business and you’ll see all those new shinny MAC laptops everywhere.  I had one executive tell me the other day that MACs account for 70% of the computers in their company!  That was from just 5% 8 years ago.  Amazing!

In keeping with my mantra of doing the opposite of the big vendors, I thought it was important to provide a MAC application.  It works just like all the other platforms which is fantastic.  That means if you are sitting on a plane, train or automobile, you can see your data on your mobile device and then when you get back to your office, you can pull up the same metric you just favorited on your phone, right on your desktop.  The same, seemless experience from mobile to tablet to desktop.

Why continue doing it the OLD WAY, when you can do it the NEW WAY.   Patrick

Just how true is that statement?  It is probably in the top 5 issues in every business around the world. If you don’t know your numbers, how do you know what each person contributes to the bottom line? I could go on…

After 5 months of non-stop development and testing, I’m happy to announce the launch of Atlas Insights for Apple (iPhone/iPad, MAC), Google Android, Windows (Desktop, Phone, Hub).  Atlas is focus on making your business more agile when it comes to getting the data that matters most out to your employees so that they can make better decisions faster.
